Trinity Health Monitor Technician - Per Diem in Syracuse, New York

36 hours a week during the 4-6 weeks of orientation period

Weekend and holiday rotation

POSITION SUMMARY:

Operates patient monitoring equipment, provides accurate, continuous surveillance of designated patient parameters, assesses functioning, provides basic troubleshooting of equipment, and collects and stores data.

Performs 12 lead EKG

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

High school education or equivalent. Courses in physical science and previous medical/cardiac/EKG training desirable.

Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience reading monitors or EKGs is strongly preferred.

  • Successfully completes Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Monitor Technician orientation program or the equivalent.

  • Must have the availability to train full time for 4 weeks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

Clinical setting. Exposure class I - -Routine or potential exposure to blood, body fluids, excretions or secretions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Sedentary work: Sit for extended periods of time, light physical work, vision and physical dexterity adequate to accurately do role.

WORK CONTACT GROUP:

All services, employees, medical staff, patients, visitors, vendors, various regulatory and professional agencies.

SUPERVISED BY:

Designated RN, Unit Manager, Clinical Coordinator

SUPERVISES:

Assigned orientees

SPECIFIC CRITERIA:

  • Adheres to established hospital policy and procedure related to job function.

  • Operates patient monitoring equipment.

  • Assesses functioning of monitoring equipment.

  • Provides basic troubleshooting of monitoring equipment.

  • Provides accurate continuous surveillance of designated patient parameters.

  • Notifies designated staff of any change in patient’s EKG status.

  • Maintains ongoing communication with staff assigned to patient, other monitor technicians, and physicians.

  • Reports and stores select measurement and readings.

  • Reports equipment problems to designated staff and follow up as directed.

  • Maintains work station inventory.

  • Adheres to safety standard within the unit.

  • Maintains confidentiality related to patients, staff, and visitors.

  • Assists in orientation of new employees.

  • Completes mandatory educational activities.

  • Maintain required competencies.

  • Abides by established personnel policies and procedures.

  • Attends staff meetings.

  • Adheres to hospital confidentiality statement.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Pay Range: $17.25 - $25.00

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
