GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Medical Records Review Coordinator’s (MRRC) primary objective is to fullfill CMS requirements for the completion of death record reviews and maximize organ donor potential by identifying donation opportunities, as well as missed potential organ donors. This will be accomplished by performing retrospective reviews of death records from donation service area hospitals. This position must develop and maintain a strong working relationship with hospital health information management departments and have a thorough knowledge of Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network (FLDRN) donation service area hospitals electronic medical record systems and internal electronic medical record systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Death Record Reviews and Reporting
Collects, maintains and reports death record review data and and missed potential organ donors from individual hospitals within established timelines and as needed to Hospital Development, Quality department, and Leadership to support performance improvement.
Ensures accurate and timely data collection, data entry and death record review.
Utilizes clinical judgement and regulatory knowledge to determine which hospital medical records are to be reviewed as well as to analyze information in the records relevant to FLDRN.
Determines timeliness of all referrals by examining occurences of clinical triggers and comparing to when the referral was made to FLDRN
Responsible for data entry and updates into the iTransplant system based on information found during record reviews.
Provides monthly data report which details the outcomes of reviews and advised on course of action to improve and optimize donor opportunities.
Electronic Medical Records
Partners and develops relationships with hospital IT and EMR teams to obtain reports as needed.
For any hospitals within the donor service area who are using paper charts, travel may be necessary to these hospitals to review charts
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors’s degree or graduate of an approved Health Records Administration/Health Information Technology/Medical Records Technician program required
Liscensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse preferred
At least 2 years experience in a clinical, OPO, or hospital setting preferred.
Experience with hospital medical records is strongly preferred or
patient care with a strong familiarity of medical terminology preferred.
Ability to collect and document information in a sequential, accurate and timely manner required.
Strong organizational skills required
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills: working knowledge of Microsoft office, including Word, Excel and Powepoint required
Familiar with report writing (SQL, Power BI) preferred
Certification in an approved Registered Health Information Technician required

Pay Range
Pay Range: $20.92 - $29.29 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
