Want to EARN & LEARN while you are preparing to take your NCLEX? This position is for LPN academic program graduates within the past 18 months.

In the Practical Nurse Trainee position (not a GPN position), you will develop various skills through observation, including how to provide excellent nursing care as a backdrop to providing excellent quality of life for our Elders. You will also engage in meaningful life activities in the spirit of person-centered care.

This is a temporary 90 days position to bridge between the LPN graduation and NCLEX.

Must be able to commit to part time (24-32 hours per week) or full time (40 hours per week) on a DAY shift schedule (8 hour shifts between 7:00 am and 7:30 pm). If you are CNA certified, you would also have the option of working an evening shift schedule (3:00-11:00 pm). All schedules include every other weekend.

* This opportunity pays $18.00 per hour if no C.N,A. certification held or $19.50-$22.00 per hour with C.N.A. certification + generous extra pay for evening shift hours, and weekend shifts *

  • Compliance with NYS Department of Health immunization requirements

What will I be doing to make a positive impact on others?

  • Responds to residents' needs and preferences (i.e., answering call lights)

  • Taking vitals, careful observation of resident status and wellbeing

  • Engages in social interactions with elders, develops relationships

  • Assists staff with meaningful life activities

  • Participates in meal times to promote social well being

  • Meets nutritional needs

  • Measures and records intake and output

  • Reports unusual occurrences regarding change in residents' conditions, incidents and demeanors

  • Other responsibilities as needed on the nursing floor to facilitate teamwork, initiative and leadership

What is required to be successful on the job?

  • Good communication skills.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • LPN graduate of or pending graduation (within approximately one month) from accredited NYS nursing school.

  • This position is intended to be a bridged career development opportunity for a limited time (90 days) at which time, the NCLEX is passed.

  • Promotion to the LPN position will occur upon receiving NYS licensure.

Physical Requirements:

Sits, stands, walks most of the day. Frequent moving and lifting of residents. Moderate to heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs).

Exposure to Conditions:

May be exposed to contagious infection, odors, bodily fluids and psycho-behavioral situations.
