Professional Rank and Salary Range: E.79; $14,999 total

Duration: College Year, Approximately 15 hours per week (starting as soon as possible, through May 16, 2024)

Other: This is a Part-Time, Temporary, Grant-funded position, reporting to SUNY Morrisville's Norwich Campus

Brief Description of Duties:

SUNY Morrisville seeks an Accessibility Services Assistant to support our Norwich Branch campus! This person will provide accommodations and support for students with disabilities at the Norwich Campus, reporting directly to the Community and Student Support Associate.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with exam proctoring for students whose accommodations necessitate examinations occurring within the Office of Accessibility Services. This includes providing proctoring services, overseeing the scheduling of exam and coordinating with the Community and Student Support Associate.

  • Provide one on one care and coaching for students with disabilities. Assist with intake services and development of individual student plans.

  • Provide technical support for adaptive services such as alternative format textbooks, alternate format/modified testing and software.

  • Assist students with improving and maintaining academic performance by conducting one on one training and facilitated study skills sessions.

  • Recommends, requests and obtains resources, materials and technology necessary for students.

  • Develop and implement emergency evacuation plans for students.

  • Assist with Enrollment Management activities including registration campaigns, open house events and other initiatives to recruit and retain students.

  • Respond to Starfish and other alerts for students who are experiencing difficulty in the classroom.

  • Assist with requests for accommodation letters or other student needs.

  • Perform other duties as required or as assigned.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (i.e. Education, Social Work, Counseling, Disability Studies, etc).

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working with people with disabilities in student affairs, accessibility services, disability services, human services, social work or related field.

  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft products); understanding of data collection, and assessments; Superior communication and soft skills - oral and written; excellent customer service skills; and a commitment toward institutional effectiveness.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Disability Studies, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Psychology or in a related field

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of ADA 504 policies, some experience with assistive or adaptive technology.

  • Ability to understand how learning can be affected by disabilities and provide appropriate accommodations.

  • Ability to work with students of all abilities.

  • Computer experience and knowledge.

  • Good customer service, communication, writing, reading and organization skills.
