BACKGROUND:International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in more than 40 countries and over 20 U.S. cities, the IRC provides resettlement, education and empowerment support to refugees and displaced people.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with client check-ins over the phone or through video calls (as preferred by the client)
In collaboration with Intensive Case Management (ICM) Team, develop individualized plans with detailed action steps based on client needs; supporting clients with action steps such as exploring employment opportunities, assisting with referrals for additional support services, etc.
Assist in scheduling client health and wellness appointments and coordinating transportation as needed; accompanying clients to appointments as needed for support
In collaboration with ICM Team and Healthcare Benefits Navigators, develop Access HRA and NYC Housing Connect and other benefits navigation workshop materials; delivery of workshops to clients as needed
Collaborate with other ICM interns and support the development of a Community Resources Map through desk review and outreach activities
In coordination with Healthcare Benefit Navigators, support screening and enrollment activities for benefit programs such as Medicaid, NYC Care, SNAP, WIC, FairFares, etc.
Keep thorough and accurate case file documentation in IRC’s database
Keep all digital files up to date and create new digital client files as needed
Communicate client concerns and potential challenges to ICM Caseworker/Casework Assistant
Fluency or familiarity with Dari, Pashto, Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, French, and Arabic
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Gain experience with the U.S refugee resettlement process and services available to clients specifically in/ around New York City
Gain experience in identifying clients' needs to appropriately coordinate medical care and connect them to necessary supportive services within the community
Gain experience with conducting wellness assessments 6 months and 12 months after ICM enrollment and keeping thorough and accurate case file documentation of all direct services provided to clients
Develop skills in creation and delivery of workshops addressing client housing, employment and resource benefits navigation
