Anticipated Entry on Duty: 5/4/25 The incumbent serves as a museum technician located at a museum facility in a National Park Service organization. The purpose of the position is to perform a full range of complex curatorial support work in a museum. Responsibilities Performs general museum housekeeping to include implementation of an Integrated Pest Management program, cleaning of exhibit spaces, and data logger monitoring. Assists the Curator by cataloging or re-cataloging artifacts in the Interior Collection Management System (ICMS). Preparing for the Interior Collection Management System (ICMS)-Museum Collection Management System (MCMS) transition by cleaning up databases and ensuring images are attached correctly. Assists with exhibit development, design, installation and maintenance. Photographs and scans objects ensuring that all images meet best practice standards. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. Qualifications All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-03/25/2025-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). For this position specialized experience is defined as experience using museum collections management methods to preserve, care for and catalog museum collections; performing historical research; and writing reports, exhibits, and responding to visitor inquiries. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one year of graduate level education with coursework related to the duties of the position. Related fields of study include art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to the position to be filled. You must include transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION: Successful completion of a combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above. You must include transcripts. Physical Demands: The work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required. Heavy items (e.g. boxes up to 50 lbs.) must be lifted or moved frequently. Working Conditions: Most of the work is performed in a museum environment of exhibit and storage areas, workroom/laboratory, and offices. Occasional work with materials which are dusty or stored with protective chemicals may require the use of dues masks, gloves, or other protective devices. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
