New York University Research/Lab Manager (Part-Time) in New York, New York

The Homeplace Research Collective (Homeplace) is looking for an enthusiastic, in-person, part-time lab manager with excellent organizational skills and background in applied psychology to assist in overseeing a variety of projects in Homeplace. The research assistant will work with the principal investigator, Dr. Lauren Mims, on a variety of projects (https://sites.google.com/nyu.edu/the-homeplace/research). This primarily includes the Black Youth Mental Health Initiative (BYMHI), which adopts a whole child policy approach to support the mental health of Black youth in Richmond, Virginia.

All work in the lab is focused on community-engaged, child-centered Black child development research. The position will include some evening and weekend work to allow data collection programming with children and the community. The position requires a commitment until May 2024. This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.

This would be an excellent position for recent college graduates interested in gaining research training and mentoring before pursuing graduate studies in psychology, or a related field. This position is expected to be a 20 hour/week commitment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Be actively involved in all aspects of the research process

  • Setting up equipment, recruiting, and scheduling participants

  • Collecting data with children, caregivers, community members, and educators

  • Training and supervising undergraduate research assistants

  • Submitting and renewing IRB protocols

  • Assisting with data analysis and research finding dissemination via manuscripts, conference presentations, research briefs, and/or social media posts

  • Assisting with planning and running of student and community workshops

  • Other duties as assigned

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly base range for this position is $27-$30/hour. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Per NYU's remote-work policy, this position is expected to be fully in-person.

  • Bachelor's in psychology or education (or related fields)

  • Experience in conducting and analyzing qualitative research in psychology is desired

  • Individuals with backgrounds in applied psychology and/or related fields with a strong desire to do applied research are encouraged to apply
