New York University Path Implementation Coach (Part-Time) in New York, New York

Position Summary

The Path Implementation Coach (Part-Time) reports to the Director of the NYU Path Program, and supports school staff initiating the inclusion of students with emotional disabilities in community schools. The Path Implementation Coach also works closely with NYCDOE school partners and other stakeholders across NYU. The Path program is committed to building a culturally diverse team and strongly encourages applications from individuals from underserved or underrepresented groups. The position will be based in New York City at New York University’s Institute of Human Development and Social Change (IHDSC), in collaboration with the Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools.

Position Responsibilities

Program Implementation and School Support

  • Support the implementation of the Path program in NYCDOE elementary schools, including direct consultation, training, instructional planning, and team meeting participation with school staff

  • Provide feedback and support to NYCDOE school teams including educators and social workers through onsite and virtual consultation

  • Model trauma-informed educational practices and de-escalation strategies for school staff within classrooms and therapeutic spaces

  • Co-facilitate professional development for educators and social workers

Program Development

  • Support the Director with the development of Path content and resources to meet the dynamic needs of schools in underserved communities

  • Build on the perspectives and experiences of students and families in Path schools and incorporate anti-racist, culturally responsive lens into Path content

Salary and Location:

This position is part time up to 18 hours per week (between 8am and 4pm). Implementation coaching is primarily onsite in NYCDOE schools with 3 or 4 hours of virtual meetings weekly with the NYU internal team. The position will end in July 2023 with a potential opportunity to continue in a part- or full-time position in the 2023-2024 school year.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the base hourly range for this position is $26.09 to $32.00 per hour depending on level of professional experience. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

About IHDSC

The Institute of Human Development and Social Change (IHDSC) is a large, interdisciplinary research center at NYU’s Steinhardt School that aims to break new ground through support of rigorous research and training across social, behavioral, educational, policy, and health sciences. IHDSC cultivates intellectual community and research-practice-policy partnerships focused on race and inequality, education and child development, health and wellbeing, and legal system involvement. IHDSC brings together over 90 faculty and hundreds of students and staff with the goals of knowledge creation (research), knowledge transmission (education), and knowledge utilization (policy and practice). IHDSC hosts a range of initiatives aimed at catalyzing new programs of multidisciplinary research, linking people across divides to solve social problems, building intellectual community, and disseminating research evidence to policymakers, practitioners, and general audiences.

About the Path Program

The Path program is a New York City Department of Education Specialized Program that promotes the inclusion of students with emotional disabilities within community schools. The program fosters a new path to academic success and social-emotional growth for children in need of specific emotional and behavioral support. Path provides a trauma-informed care approach across the whole school, creating a culture of safety and belonging. The program implements strengths-based, healing-centered practices, positive behavioral and self-regulation support, and integrated instruction in academic and social-emotional learning. The NYU Path Program team advises and assists through training, professional development, on-site consultation, and program evaluation to inform continuous quality improvement and understand student outcomes.

  • MA or MS in special education, MSW in social work, or a related field

  • A minimum of 5 years of teaching, coaching teachers and other school staff, and/or school-based therapeutic experience supporting children in underserved communities;

  • Professional experience working with elementary age students with emotional or behavioral challenges and/or a history of trauma;

  • Experience implementing healing-centered practices in schools, and training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (preferred)

  • Experience collaborating with professionals in large urban public school systems

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills

  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively on complex tasks

  • Commitment to issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice
