They will promote a safe and positive atmosphere in accordance with YMCA aquatics policies and procedures.Key Responsibilities:-Must be Rescue Ready: uniform, pocket face mask/gloves, whistle, and rescue tube.-Continuous and active scanning of the pool.-Attend mandatory in-service training on a monthly basis.-Know and understand the Emergency Action Plan and Emergency Evacuation Routes.-Enforce aquatics safety rules consistently and fairly.-Perform secondary duties only when not lifeguarding as requested (cleaning/sorting aquatics equipment, testing chemicals, tidying the pool deck, and/or assisting instructors).-Maintain positive relationships with members and staff. Show members and colleagues respect by listening carefully and showing empathy when dealing with difficult situations.-Follow the directions of the YMCA Aquatic Supervisors in accordance with YMCA Aquatic Standards.-Maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness.-Responsible for all recertification before expiration.-Must attain the YMCA Lifeguard certification within 90 days of hire.Desired Skills & Experience:-High School diploma or equivalent desirable.-Minimum age - 16 years old. 16 and 17 year old Lifeguards need to comply with NYS working hours.-Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent.-Current Basic Life Support, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications.-Demonstrate swim strokes, lifeguard rescues, and BLS/BFA/EO skills.-Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.Benefits:The YMCA of Greater New York offers a variety of benefits to its staff members, including retirement benefits, medical, paid time off, free YMCA membership, and more!
