FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences at the City College Center for Worker Education/CUNY invites applications for a Lecturer in Public Health to begin in January 2024. This position is teaching-oriented with some service requirements but no research expectations. The teaching load is 24 credit hours per year. Candidates for this position should be able to teach coursework in basic biological and physical sciences, as well as public health courses relating to any of the following areas:community health, environmental health sciences, population and family health, or policy.

The Department offers an interdisciplinary BA program in Liberal Arts for working adults,a BS in Early Childhood Studies,and an MA in the Study of the Americas. Classes are taught in the evenings and on Saturdays. Our program has a long-standing commitment to students from underserved and minority populations, many of whom are working and/or returning adult students, and many of whom are first-generation college students. Responsibilities include teaching core natural science and public health courses and contributing to Departmental program assessment, curriculum design, and student mentoring. Lecturers participate as full faculty members of the Department, the College, and the University. Service expectations will include serving on committees and contributing to projects and programs, particularly those related to teaching and learning. In their fifth year, Lecturers are eligible for a Certificate of Continuous Employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or related field for an accredited institution

  • Demonstrable teaching excellence

  • Experience teaching students of diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic and educational backgrounds

Preferred Qualification

  • Minimum qualification and a DRPH or PHD in Public Health or related field

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: $52,072-$92,878

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.

If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
