The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Adjunct Associate Research Scientist in New York, New York

We are seeking candidates for a part-time (Adjunct) Associate Research Scientist position for 1 year, with the potential to renew the position. The position is to conduct geospatial analyses for studies of the relationship between health and neighborhood urban design, built environments, green space, spatial access to services for individuals experiencing homelessness and social environments. The team is currently working on a series of projects related to pedestrian safety and the Adjunct Associate Research Scientist will contribute to these projects, but will also have opportunities to contribute to projects on kidney disease, and cognitive decline. Candidates need to have a PhD in geography, urban design, or similar field, with expertise in GIS and experience in the application of GIS and geospatial analyses to public health, social sciences or medicine.

They will work with a multidisciplinary research team that includes epidemiologists, urban sociologists, and geographers. There will be opportunities for the Adjunct Associate Research Scientist to contribute to research papers in both lead and co-author roles.

Geospatial research and analysis 75%

Team meetings 5%

Contributing to scientific paper writing 15%

Advising and consulting on GIS methods with researchers inside and outside of the core research team 5%


PhD in geography, urban design or similar field, expertise in GIS - specifically in ESRI products.
