Vocational Specialist (PT)

EAC Network, a not-for-profit social service agency that empowers, assists, and cares for over 62,888 people in need through 100 programs across Long Island and NYC, seeks a Vocational Specialist to work part time for its Home Base (Intensive) Programs.

The Vocational Specialist position is flexible (late afternoon/evening availability as needed), 4 days a week (Saturdays required) paying $25 per hour for up to 18 hours per week. The office is located in Hauppauge, NY. The role reports to Program Director.

Primary Purpose of Job:

The Vocational Specialist is responsible for providing counseling, vocational assistance and employment services to youth referred by Department of Probation in Suffolk County with the outcome of economic self-sufficiency as the objective of the counseling process.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients in identifying and developing plans related to education needs and career goals

  • Network with area employers to identify with potential employment resources.

  • Conduct follow-up counseling sessions to review progress towards established goals.

  • Coordinate program services including vocational assessments, collaborate with case management, and conduct training and work assignments.

  • Administer, score and interpret aptitude, interest and work sample tests when appropriate.

  • Function as agency liaison with vocational agencies such as ACCESS/VR, DOL and One-Stop Employment Centers.

  • Maintain client record information including services provided, referrals and progress/lack of progress.

  • Consult with family, school and community agencies regarding client's progress.

  • Utilize the educational training, skills and experience obtained to provide appropriate professional services, techniques and strategies for clients.

  • Explore and develop employment opportunities and community resources for referral purposes.

  • Prepare required forms and keep statistics on client contacts, referrals, and job activities.

  • Transport and escort clients to and from appointments, camp/enrichment activities and/ or to obtainemergency resources in own vehicle when needed.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

  • Must have a minimum of a Bachelors degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, or approved related human services field.

  • Minimum of one year of career counseling experience with individuals with a history of mental health and alcohol/substance abuse problems required.

  • Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, and email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments.

  • Must have access to car and possess a valid New York State Driver's License.
