Cornell Cooperative Extension Finance Assistant - East Syracuse, NY in East Syracuse, New York

This position will serve as Finance Assistant for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Onondaga County and will provide financial support to the organization to include, but not limited to: providing business functions of the accounting/payroll processes for association accounts; processing checks, key deposits, disbursement vouchers for invoices, bank reconciliation in Acumatica, copy grant documentation, P/R allocation, pre-paid allocation, and review EE reports/receipt, and other financial transactions. This position will work closely with other Association finance staff.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position is a part-time non-exempt position, 20 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $20.00 to $22.00 commensurate with experience. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or college level accounting courses and two (2) years of experience or equivalent combination of experience and education. (High School Diploma and 7–10 years of relevant work experience).

  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends as appropriate.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new accounting software and MS Outlook.

  • Demonstrated ability and proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral and written means.

  • Demonstrated strong accounting and bookkeeping skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize technology effectively in performing position responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn updates and new financial systems, procedures and best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and to secure confidential information and materials appropriately.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work within strict timeframes with attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated high level of organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with and relate to co-workers, advisors, community agencies, professional leaders and clientele of varying ages, socio-economic and cultural diversities.

  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member.

    Administrative Responsibilities:

    Management - 5%

  • Assist Finance Manager in ensuring department work and activities align with the Association’s Plan of Work, and the goals and objectives of the Finance Department.

  • Assist Finance Manager in troubleshooting and solving problems that arise in the Finance Department, adhering to established policies, procedures and protocol in all situations.

    Coordination/Operation - 90%

  • Provide daily financial and business functions of the accounting/payroll process.

  • Construct financial reports as needed.

  • Process vouchers, payments, and other financial transactions as assigned.

  • Perform Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.

  • Prepare bank deposits.

    Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.

  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.

    Health and Safety - Applies to all duties and functions

  • Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
