The incumbent manages workflow, supervises and reviews the work of subordinate staff and is responsible for the final approval or disapproval of a determination. The Senior Social Welfare Examiner performs case related duties on an as needed basis, and assists in resolving more complex issues. The work is performed under the general supervision of a senior staff member, with leeway permitted for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Position eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:Open Competitive:(a)Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s degree or higher and two (2) years of full-time paid experience or its part-time equivalent working with the public; or(b)Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of experience as defined in (a) above; or(c)An equivalent combination of training or experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).Promotional:(a)Promotion is limited to employees who are serving on a permanent and continuous basis and are employed by Cortland County in EITHER the competitive class position of Social Welfare Examiner for twelve (12) months, OR (b)The competitive class position of Social Welfare Examiner for six (6) months preceded by six (6) months as a Social Welfare Examiner Trainee.Pre-employment screenings required.
