SUNY Cortland Human Resources Assistant in Cortland, New York

Position Summary:

The Human Resource Assistant supports appointment processing, student employment, Human Resource analytics and reporting, and classified staff recruitment.

Major Responsibilities:

Appointment Processing

• Process a variety of employment actions including new hires, reappointments, promotions, salary increases, paid and unpaid leaves, and retirements/separations for full-time and part-time faculty and staff employees.

• Process and finalize hiring proposals, assigning onboarding tasks to new employees within the Employee Records onboarding system.

• Maintain appointment records to accurately administer personnel and payroll changes, according to the collective bargaining agreement contracts.

• Work closely with campus technology offices to facilitate changes to department/office names and changes to reporting structures, and process these changes in various systems (Banner, SUNY HR, Hierarchy, Time and Attendance, and the applicant tracking system).

• Participate in conducting annual campus training of personnel appointment processing.

HR Oversight for Student Employment

• Serve as the HR Officer for campus student employment policies and procedures, and as the primary liaison to the Student Employment Career Services Office.

• Assist Career Services Office in maintaining policies and procedures for widely publicizing student assistant positions.

• Establish annual student pay rates and update the Student Employment Policy as needed, including routing to the President’s Cabinet for approval. Distribute the approved Student Assistant Policy appropriately, including making updates to the Applicant Tracking System, as necessary.

• Work with and provide assistance to campus departments to ensure compliance with student employment policies and procedures and any/all applicable employment laws.

HR Analytics and Website

• Utilize the Business Intelligence (BI) reporting system within SUNY HR, and other data sources (Payserv & NYSTEP systems) to prepare standard and ad hoc reports pertaining to appointment, renewal, promotions, separations, and compensation, helping to inform data-driven decisions regarding an overall workforce strategy.

• Assist with developing and maintaining Appointment within the HR Team Dynamix Knowledge Base.

Classified Recruitment

• Assist with Classified Staff recruitment initiatives, such as attending job fairs, reviewing applicants’ eligibility for jobs, reviewing reference checks, etc.

• Serve on search committees, as needed, and as applicable to role.

Service

• Attend at least 3 events on campus per year, including such events as lunch and learns, training and speaking events, performance and sporting events, etc.

• Serve on committees, as applicable to the role.

Required Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree in human resources, business administration, psychology, economics, mathematics or a closely related field; or a minimum of an Associate’s degree and experience working in Human Resources, Payroll or Accounting.

• Experience working with computer software programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, psychology, economics, mathematics or a closely related field.

• Experience working in higher education.

• Experience working in human resources.

• Experience working with an automated Human Resource Information System ( HRIS ).
