GENERAL DUTIES

Completes non-teaching projects or complex work in support of a Campus or University administrative or academic department. This work is generally of a temporary nature and requires specialized experience or expertise.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Reporting to the Director of Career Services and the Director of the Culinary Arts Program, the part-time Adjunct Career Advisor will have the following expectations and area responsibilities:

Expectations of Adjunct Career Advisor

Understand the services provided by the Center for Career Development & Experiential Learning and program requirements for the Culinary and Tourism & Hospitality Students.

Understand all aspects of designated project area.

Acquire knowledge about relevant careers to educate an assist students during individual appointments and workshops.

Share acquired knowledge with Career Services staff and program faculty (i.e. FYI via email).

Identify issues, concerns and challenges related to work experience and seek advice accordingly.

Exhibit professionalism, punctuality and effective written and communication skills.

Career Project Area Responsibilities

Provide professional individual and group career counseling using techniques grounded in counseling theory and student development philosophy.

Guide Culinary Arts & Tourism and Hospitality students with job search skills such as resume and cover letter writing and interview techniques.

Conduct workshops and seminars on topics including: Resume Writing, Interview Skills, Job Search Techniques, Internships and Job Etiquette.

Lisaise with Job Developer to identify opportunities for Culinary Arts & Tourism and Hospitality students.

Administering and interpreting various self-assesment instruments, career-related/vocational assessments, inventories and tools to determine students' career-related potential.

Assist in the development and revision of survey measures to assess program services.

Peform data analysis for the purpose of assessing the relationship between service utilization and student outcomes.

Assist with the preparation of career advisement marketing and informational brochures.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate should have at minimum a Bachelor's degree (Masters Degree preferred) in a Counseling, Psychology, or a related field with experience working with career guidance in a higher education setting. Experience in the Tourism and Hospitality field preferred. The candidate should possess good computer skill, as well as the ability to initiate projects. They must be able to demonstrate good organization skills, positive interpersonal skills, and excellent communication skills. They must have strong interest and experience in the use of technology in career services. The candidate must be able to work with students, faculty, staff and representatives from the corporate world both in-person and on virtual platforms. In addition, it will be essential for the advisor to demonstrate administrative abilitites and experience, as well as strong ability to prioritize tasks. A demonstrated commitment to excellence in delivering services to students is essential. Evening hours may be required.

COMPENSATION

$53.61 per hour.

The succesful candidate will be expected to work 15 hours per week.
