The Role at a glance:

Hudson Garden Grill, located within the stunning New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx, NY, is seeking an enthusiastic and talented Line Cook to join our culinary team. This is your chance to grow within a dynamic team of professionals, contribute to innovative menus, and serve exceptional dishes to our guests in one of NYC’s most beautiful dining settings. As a Line Cook at Hudson Garden Grill, you will be responsible for preparing high-quality dishes that align with our commitment to sustainability and culinary excellence. You’ll have the chance to work with fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients, many of which are plant-based, while contributing to menus that elevate dining experiences. Working in a fast-paced kitchen, you’ll need to bring a positive attitude, attention to detail, and passion for food preparation.

Compensation is $22-$25 an hour.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, cook, and present menu items according to restaurant standards, maintaining consistency in flavor and presentation.

  • Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with health and safety guidelines, adhering to sanitation, hygiene, and food handling protocols.

  • Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to foster a positive and efficient work environment.

  • Effectively manage prep and service stations, ensuring readiness during service.

  • Monitor inventory and communicate supply needs, aiming to minimize waste and help control food costs.

  • Maintain kitchen tools and equipment, ensuring cleanliness and proper functionality.

  • Support the development and execution of seasonal and exhibition-based menu changes.

  • Maintain open communication with front-of-house and other departments for smooth operations.

  • Follow zero-waste initiatives, minimizing food waste by utilizing ingredients thoughtfully and composting when necessary.

  • Contribute to the daily cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Over 1 year of experience in a professional kitchen or culinary school background preferred.

  • Passionate about plant-forward, sustainable cuisine with a strong desire to continue learning and growing in the culinary field.

  • Solid understanding of kitchen operations and high-volume production.

  • Ability to multitask, handle pressure, and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, fostering a collaborative team atmosphere.

  • Commitment to food safety, sanitation, and maintaining an efficient, clean workspace.

  • Able to take direction from the Executive and Sous Chefs while contributing creativity to the kitchen.

  • Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.

  • Interest in working with seasonal, locally sourced, and sustainable ingredients.
