Budget Title: Instructional Support Assistant (SL-1)

Salary: $22/hour (part-time, temporary, alternate work location, approximately 20 hours per week)

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is hiring several temporary, remote-based, part-time Application Readers to assist with the review of Binghamton's 50,000 undergraduate applications. Candidates can set their own hours for most of the cycle but will need to commit to a week of virtual training from October 28th to November 1st. Candidates will also need to commit to 20-hours per week from October 28th to mid-February of 2025. The exact end date will vary depending on the needs of the Undergraduate Admissions Office.

Please note: the position will work from a remote location, due to campus space limitations. Please note that new hires must come to Binghamton's Human Resources Office one time in person to complete all applicable hiring paperwork prior to the start of training, so applicants from the local area are strongly encouraged.

Training at the start of the position will take approximately one week and then a once-a-week meeting will be required throughout the duration of employment. Application Readers will thoroughly and holistically evaluate application materials including transcripts, essays, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, and all other aspects of application files. The goal for Application Readers will be to support Binghamton in enrolling a well-rounded and academically talented incoming class for fall 2025. Readers must be able to work from home while remaining focused on a task for several hours at a time. Ideal candidates will have experience in college admissions and/or higher education as a whole, and will also have experience analyzing application materials.

Candidates who are employees or volunteers for other undergraduate admissions or family members of a current high school junior or senior are not eligible for this position.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote setting

  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology

  • Attend training and a weekly meeting via Zoom

  • Have your own laptop or desktop computer, a reliable internet connection, and a cell phone or landline

  • Ability to work 20 hours per week consistently with little or no distractions

  • Must be able to physically come to Binghamton University campus, within 3 days of hire, to fill out new hire paperwork

Preferred:

  • Prior admissions and/or higher education experience

  • Advising work with a community-based organization focused on education and career opportunities
