All candidates for either position must have their letters of intent, resume, district application, and evidence of all coaching certification requirements on file with the Athletic Director by the application deadline. Qualifications: Applicant must be in compliance with all New York State Education Department coaching requirements as well as Barker Central School District policies and regulations.

  • Completion of First Aid for Coaches; CPR/AED

  • School Violence Prevention and Intervention

  • Identification and Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse or Maltreatment

  • Concussion Management course

  • DASA training.

  • Hold a current Professional Coaching License specific to the sport the candidate is applying for.

Supervisor: Athletic Director

Supervises: Football or Cheerleading as applicable

Salary: As per stipend for the coaching position which is established in the current BTU Contract.

Official Start Date:Fall Sports Season, anticipated start date:

Football - Saturday, August 16

Cheer - mid-August

Major Functions/Specific Coaching Responsibilities:

(include but are not limited to):

  • Completion of administrative requirements:

  • Meetings: students, staff, Athletic Director, league, and parents,

  • Complete, review, design, distribute, and/or collect all Barker Central School District, League, Section, and State paperwork.

  • Recognize student-athlete performance.

  • Supports and implements rules and regulations through the Barker Central School District, League, Section, and State rules.

  • Demonstrates the best teaching and fitness practices that lead to improving each individual's athletic performance.

  • Uses proper game/meet preparation skills and management strategies.

  • Actively supervises athletes at all times and ensures a safe environment for our students.

  • Models appropriate behavior and holds athletes accountable for academic excellence, sportsmanship, and citizenship.

  • Responsible for care of materials, supplies, equipment, and facilities.

  • Devotes self by expanding their knowledge of the sport, by offering off-season opportunities for potential and current student-athletes, and assisting with post-graduate opportunities.

  • Is well skilled when communicating with students, parents, teachers, coaches, administration, the media, and the community members.

Additional Certification Information:

  • Necessary courses for qualifications include fees, and course length vary depending on the course. Candidates are responsible for submitting evidence of all required certifications with their application.

  • A Temporary Coaching License may be issued if no person applies with a Professional Coaching License. A person that is applying for a temporary license must complete the following within the required timeline:

    A.) Option 1 Pathway for coaching classes: - Philosophy, Principles and Organization of Athletics - Health Science Applied to Coaching - Theories and Techniques of Coaching B.) Option 2 Pathway for coaching classes: - These courses are offered through the NFHS Accredited Interscholastic Athletic Coach Certificate Program
    1. Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport is preferred.
