New Directions Youth and Family Services Registered Nurse in Amherst, New York

Position: Registered Nurse - Full time, part time and on-call available.

We are looking for a Nurse who likes the idea of travelling throughout the Buffalo-Niagara region, building relationships and helping the young people in our care, instead of being in an office all day. Pay and benefits

  • 3 weeks of paid time off your first year, not including an additional 13 agency holidays.

  • $32.00 - $33.62/hr your first year with the agency. Additional raises guaranteed.

  • Monday - Friday, 9:00 - 5:00, with some on-call responsibilities

    Minimum Education and Skills • Current licensure in NYS as a Registered Professional Nurse(required). • Previous experience in pediatric nursing or a childcare setting(preferred).

Job Description

Job Title: RN Foster Care/SILP/Broadway House Department: Health Services Title of Immediate Supervisor: Chief Clinical Officer POSITION SUMMARY: The primary objective of the RN is to ensure that all foster care and SILP youth maintain a level of physical and mental health in accordance with New York State Education Department and New York State Office of Child and Family Services, as well as to support all health related services to New Directions youth in the AOBH program (Broadway House) to promote wellness and a healthy environment, by utilizing a trauma informed, youth & family guided health care approach. TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: 1..Review potential intakes and assess for medical needs, and appropriateness of admission to New Directions.. 2. Reviews healthcare admission process for all assigned children according to agency procedure and applicable New York State regulations. 3.Triage, assess, and treat youth illness and injuries as outlined in the appropriate policies and according to OCFS including but not limited to first and emergency treatment. Refer for appropriate emergency and primary health care as necessary, supporting foster/kinship families with health services recommendations. 4. Obtain and maintain records from previous providers and maintain accurate and complete health care records for all youth, including electronic health records according to regulations and New York State Education Law as appropriate. 5. Educates foster and kinship families, birth families and SILP and AOBH individuals regarding medication regimens as prescribed by a physician. Ensures the appropriate administration of medications by foster/kinship families or AOBH staff when applicable. 6. Ensure annual hearing, vision and dental screens as required by OCFS and as medically necessary.. 7. Evaluate and maintain student immunization records, advises Foster Care Department and foster/kinship caretakers of deficiencies in the record. 8. Participate in health monitoring of children to include BMI%, activity/exercise, substance abuse, smoking cessation, communicable disease awareness, nutrition, etc. 9.. Maintain all health notes in the Health Tab in Connections and agency Electronic Health Record according to agency policy. Responsible for maintaining youth’s health service comprehensive treatment plan.

  1. Provide staff training as requested by the supervisor regarding health related concerns and treatment; educate new hires regarding medication certification and/or blood borne pathogens at orientation or when requested by a supervisor. 11. Maintain current First Aid/CPR/ AED certification as provided by the agency. 12. Perform duties in a manner consistent with professional standards and the NYS Nurse Practice Act.

  2. Report suspected Child Abuse and Maltreatment as mandated by law and agency policy 14. Attend all mandatory in-service training and regularly attend professional development training as needed.

  3. Maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention certification as provided by Agency 16. Work collaboratively with the treatment teams to ensure that youth’s health care needs are met within the context of the multidisciplinary treatment plan. 17.Assist foster families and SILP individuals with health care functions as necessary such as care coordination for youth, scheduling health care appointments, arranging transportation, assisting collaborating physicians with services rendered, triaging emergencies when necessary, and medical billing. 18. Assists in the coordination of primary care, psychiatric services, and laboratory services with consulting physicians and laboratories when necessary. 19. Assists in infection control and prevention processes of communicable illnesses following NYSDOH, CDC guidelines and/or the recommendation of ordering physicians/Medical Director. 20. Acts as the liaison between youth, parent, New Directions Medicaid Managed Care Liaison, school and other community providers in health matters as appropriate. 22. All other duties as assigned by supervisors. SKILL, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Minimum Education and/or Professional Qualifications/Skills • Current licensure in NYS as a Registered Professional Nurse preferred • Previous experience in pediatric nursing or in a childcare/school setting.
